From 2015-2022, Digital Humanities at MSU ran regular mini-symposia to bring together people from across the campus community. Locus served as an avenue for people to learn about DH work and to network with like-minded students and colleagues. These 2-hour events showcased projects and ideas from students, faculty, and staff through short lightning talk presentations, with lots of Q&A time built in so the audience could provide feedback and draw connections across the presentations.
Each Locus was built around a broad yet distinct theme, method, or topic and to foster a vibrant, collaborative, and active research community interested in digital humanities and social science work. Especially in the early years, Locus brought together two units (labs, departments, programs) from different parts of campus to contribute to the Call for Proposals with the aim of creating contact across the siloed university.
