The DH@MSU Advisory Committee will review funding applications at the end of the Fall and Spring semesters. Applications for Summer 2024 and Fall 2024 funding are due at Noon on Wednesday, December 4, 2024. Applications for Spring 2025 funding are due on Tuesday, April 1, 2024.
DH@MSU awards funds of up to $500 to support Digital Humanities professional development for students (graduate and undergraduate) and employees at MSU. Items funded may include: (virtual) conference attendance, training activities, software, equipment, data, and hiring student labor for project collaboration. Individuals from any discipline or unit at any point in their career/time at MSU are welcome to apply.
Applications may be submitted via a form, which contains the following questions:
- Name, email, dept(s), status (faculty, student, etc)
- Type of funding request (conference, equipment, etc)
- How will these funds be used to support your professional development? Explain your budgetary needs. (100-150 words)
- If you are requesting funds to support conference presentation, also include the title of the presentation that you will give.
- Why is this request suitable for funding through the Digital Humanities Professional Development Program? How does this funding support or advance your work in Digital Humanities specifically? (250-300 words)
- If DH@MSU Professional Development Funding will not cover the entire financial implications of your needs, how do you plan to cover any additional costs? (up to 150 words)
Highest consideration will be given to applications that meet the following criteria:
- Suitability: Does this proposal match the funding priorities of the Professional Development program (e.g. attending a conference, training activities, purchase of software / equipment)?
- Necessity: Does this proposal accurately define a form of training or acquisition that cannot be freely acquired through existing MSU resources?
- Applicability: Does this proposal effectively describe how the funding would benefit an individual’s or program’s larger professional goals? Is the proposed activity deeply engaged in the Digital Humanities?
- Feasibility: Does this proposal offer a reasonable timeline for progress to goals? Can the proposed activity / acquisition be completed within a reasonable timeframe?
Formal affiliation with DH@MSU, previous funding from DH@MSU, or the applicant’s role at the university (e.g. faculty, student, etc) will not factor in funding decisions.
